The process for this project was to create vivid memories for someone who grew up in the UK.

One of the reasons i chose to do this was to bring to light that taking a family holiday in the UK is becoming quite a common thing and people should see what is around our country.

one of the most iconic things about martin parr is his use of everyday life and how he uses lots of bold colours.

the way he influenced me was how he would photograph the British culture, this is what helped me chose the location for my shoots, this being Weymouth, my grandmas hometown. this is due to the popularity during the summer time and how it has the classical british holiday feel

One of the main reasons I choose Weymouth was the fact that I already had a connection to this place emotionally and I know it would work so well as their is always something going on, along with the range of colours the town has to offer.

the theme of vivid memories came from the fact that when I think of this place I become overloaded with memories from my childhood.

Weymouth is a great place due to it being a seaside town, I can use similar techniques and methods such as the bright and raw colours and flash as martin parr. with Weymouth being a sea side town, I can find and show different places that people don’t usually see in their everyday life and this can help them remember something from their childhood or just a general memory

Artists that have influenced my work :

of course the biggest influence was Martin parr however the renown British contemporary photographer Simon Roberts, Roberts Is known for taking very similar images to Martin parr however from much further away and making the image feel much less awkward. In Roberts images it is mainly large landscapes and groups of people instead of honing in on the typical one family type of image. Simon also uses similar methods and techniques such as large amounts of colour. finally he explores how people interact with these places.

Sally Mann :

Sally mann explores memories by taking photos of her own current life and landscapes and portrays them in a childhood memory like image, this is what I would like to achieve. With Weymouth this is great as I have access to go here for long periods of time, thus allowing me to build up memories and allow my self to relive them in my modern images.

David Hurn :

Hurn is a photographer who works along side the sea side town however he takes most of his images being based around the working class, this is another major reason why I chose Weymouth, with this place being a town for all people, lots of working class people tend to come down and visit every year. In Davids images they are mostly people relaxing and socialising, overall he is observing people behaviour while they enjoy their time on holiday.
